This thing just keeps on flashing. I bought it back in 2010 used, so I have no idea how old it is. I haven't used it in the last 4 years, but I just fired it up and its still flashing. It may last another ten years or it could be on its last flash. Metz does not make this model anymore, but they still sell for nearly $400 on eBay. Metz makes a new 76MZ-5 that sells for over $1000. My everyday flash is another Metz that I bought used in 2004 and it still works like new.
I have the cables to connect it to the Quantum Turbo 2x2 battery and the SCA Control Unit. You must get a module for the control unit that works on your camera. Do your research before buying, because I don't know if modules for the latest cameras are available since the 70MZ-5 isn't made anymore. The wires on the unit were a little loose so I put some tape on them to shore them up and everything works fine.
This flash is extremely powerful. I have used it to light up a hockey rink from one end to the other and a church alter from the far balcony.
The white stuff on the flash head in the photos is Velcro. I used this to attach a Lumiquest deflector to the flash.
I have the original battery, but 1) I doubt it works, and 2) you can get about fifty shots out of it before it's dead, so don't even think about using it.
I do not have the standard bracket to connect it to a camera, but I have something much better...
CUSTOM BRACKETS QRS-35-EV
This bracket allows you to attach the Metz Flash and keep it straight up at all times, even when you turn the camera in the portrait orientation. The camera is connected to the bracket with the tripod mount on the bottom and it rotates into the portrait position. Since the flash is not physically connected to the camera, the flash does not turn sideways, which casts light from the side. This is vitally important for portrait-oriented flash photography. I will say that the contraption can get heavy, but when you are carrying this around at an event, everybody knows that you're the paid photographer. These are selling on eBay from $70 to $110.
QUANTUM TURBO 2X2 BATTERIES
I have two Quantum Turbo 2x2 batteries, one of which no longer takes a charge. I got out of event photography in 2010 and got back in for a short time in 2012. During the two year hiatus, the both batteries went dead. I had them outfitted with new cells directly from Quantum for a very reasonable price. However, I quit again in 2013 and just now tried to fire these up only to find one not working. The other charged fully, but I can't say if it is working 100% because I don't want to flash the Metz flash over and over. I can tell you that when both batteries are working, I can shoot all day, and I'm talking about 2000 photos. I have two chargers and you can use them both, so when one battery would go dead I could get it charged before the second battery went dead. There is no way to do a professional event job without some sort of battery pack. I did some research and it appears that you can get a new cell for around $80. The batteries, when new, were around $400. These are selling on eBay from $20 to $80.
I am also including a Tamrac bag that holds the flash equipment. There's no room left for your camera.
